DESCRIPTION: 1. A strip of wood on the neck of a stringed musical instrument against which the strings are pressed in playing. 2. The long strip of hard wood on a violin, guitar, or related stringed instrument upon which the strings are stopped by the fingers. 3. Fingerboard - a narrow strip of wood on the neck of some stringed instruments (violin or cello or guitar etc) where the strings are held against the wood with the fingers.
