DESCRIPTION: 'Marimba' literally means 'voice of wood'. Interesting variety & patterns of grain & color. The wood is dense, somewhat open grained with a medium to fine texture. Brick red to purple brown with lighter & darker streaks.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Central America
BOTANICAL NAME: Platymiscium spp.
WORKING PROPERTIES: Dense & hard, and is frequently used as keys of marimbas, a Central American percussion instrument. The wood is pretty, and looks fantastic with a clear finish.
USES: Musical instruments, furniture & turnery.
