DESCRIPTION, COUNTRY OF ORIGIN & USES: A member of the grass family from Central America & Southeast Asia. The wood is a reddish brown & has a pronounced face & end grain. As such it is basically a bundle of small straws that are fibrous. There are not any growth rings visible. Can produce some very nice pens, bottle stoppers; decorative pull knobs & end grain book matched inlayed box tops. Dried stock that is generally surfaced on two sides or more. Wax sealed ends are common. Use a good CA glue to stabilize your turned article when you have sanded smooth with 100 grit & then let the glue dry for several hours & then finish sand.
